Mothers of Kobane

While the battle for Kobane went on, thousands of its residents waited it out just across the border in Suruç, in homes opened to them by local families. From there, many could see the city where their own houses stood. These are portraits of women from Kobane, photographed in those borrowed homes, waiting for the war to end.
